Manterruption – when a man interrupts a woman – is a real, scientifically proven thing. It's no secret (or, unfortunately, a surprise) that many women often find themselves interrupted and talked over by men in many situations – at work, in meetings, during classes, and even in casual conversations.

Most of the time, you'd brush it off, but now there's an app called Women Interrupted that uses your microphone to analyse voices and keep track of the number of times you've been interrupted by a man each day.

Created by ad agency BETC São Paulo, the app was released in celebration of International Women's Day. According to them, the app is meant to show that manterruption happens way more than we think and that "it stops women from expressing themselves and have deep impact in their studies, career and personal lives".

"At first glance, it may seem like a small problem, but it reflects deeper issues of gender inequality at work and in society," Gal Barradas, founder and Co-CEO of BETC São Paulo, said in a press release. "The app is a way of showing that, in fact, the interruption is real and alarming."

The Women Interrupted app is available on iOS and Android.
