What Lanvin looks like without Alber Elbaz
A preview of the fashion house's first Pre-Fall 2016 collection since its former creative director's departure
Following Alber Elbaz's exit last October, Chemena Kamali and Lucio Finale were tasked with Lanvin's Pre-Fall 2016 collection, which we've now seen a sneak peek of on the brand's Instagram. Chemena, formerly of Chloé, and Lucio, who leads Lanvin's women's accessories department will also be in charge of the coming Autumn Winter 2016 collection, to be shown in March.
The pre-fall collection has autumn prints and neutrals, punctuated by bright reds and what looks like a luxurious midnight blue velvet coat. Billowy silhouettes are executed without being overwhelming, while the shoes and bags carry either the essential leopard print or graphic pattern.
What stands out even more are the studded shoes, which manage to avoid being Romanesque (seen below). The embellishment, also seen on a few bags, is kept fresh by having studs of different sizes – expect these pieces to be fashion week favourites later this year.
We miss Alber's distinctive, soulful verve, particularly evident in his last collection, but Chemena and Lucio's graceful-slouchy direction still manages to charm.
