Chanel's beige-and-black shoes are arguably one of the most iconic shoes in fashion history. Since their creation decades ago, the shoes have been reinterpreted as boots, pumps, ballet flats, espadrilles and glittery brogues for various seasons.

In 1957, Gabrielle Chanel said "We leave in the morning with a beige and black, we lunch with the beige and black, we go to a cocktail party with the beige and black. We're dressed from morning to night!" emphasising the versatility of the two-tone shoes.

Nearly sixty years on, Karl Lagerfeld gave the shoes an update for his Autumn Winter 2015 collection, creating slingbacks that were worn by all the models – these were the only shoes that were worn on the show.

"The slingback has become the most modern shoe and makes the legs look beautiful," Karl said.

Watch the making of the new slingbacks, out in Chanel boutiques now, as well as The Slingback Stories here to get a better appreciation of the fashion house's shoemaking craft.
