This Hermès Birkin bag has been sold for $185,000
Exclusive diamond-encrusted handbag fetches an unbelievable price from anonymous buyer at auction
Somewhere in the world, someone is $185,000 richer. Meanwhile, someone somewhere else is $185,000 poorer, but that's probably not a concern because he or she is now in possession of one of the most covetable handbags on earth: the Hermès Birkin.
And it's no ordinary Birkin. It's a Himalayan Nilo Crocodile Birkin with solid 18k white gold and diamond-encrusted hardware.
The unique version was put up for auction at Heritage Auctions by an anonymous seller. Sold at the knee-weakening price by an also anonymous buyer, the bag hasn't even broken the record still held by the sale of a certain red Porosus Crocodile Birkin, which fetched $203,150 in 2011
So who could the buyer be? Kim Kardashian? Victoria Beckham? We don't think it's Jane Birkin, the woman who inspired the bag in the first place. She once called the bag "bloody heavy" although she's owned a few before, auctioning each off at different times for charity.
"What's the use of having a second one? You only need one and that busts your arm; they're bloody heavy. I'm going to have to have an operation for tendonitis in the shoulder," Jane said in an interview in 2012.
Will the real new owner of the Himalayan Nilo Crocodile Birkin bag please stand up?
