The Row opens its first flagship store
A decade after The Row was founded, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen open its first flagship
Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen’s uber-luxury brand The Row has finally opened its first flagship store. The 3,800-square-foot space is located on Los Angeles’ Melrose Place, and comes complete, naturally, with a swimming pool.
“We’ve always wanted our own store,” Mary-Kate told WWD. “It’s always been part of the plan. It was a toss-up between New York and L.A., and when this space became available, we jumped on it. It used to be a hair salon and my sister and I used to come here, so we were very aware of the space.”
“We had been coming here since we were, like, 10 years old,” said Ashley. “We are from here and The Row started here, so it was all very appropriate.”
The salon they speak of was the Sally Hershberger and John Frieda space, and prior to that the palce belonged to Neil Diamond, so the Olsens are but the latest in a string of celebrity owners. Apart from the swimming pool, the shop also holds two ‘galleries’ – one that represents a kind of dining area, and the other a living room – and a library. It’s been furnished with antiques and pieces from the LA area, including a a Jean Prouvé dining table, Fortuny floor lamp and Poul Kjaerholm coffee tables (which, yes, are for sale) as well as decorative items taken from Mary Kate and Ashley’s personal collections.
The Row flagship store is now the only place where customers can view the entire collections, including items exclusive to the store.
