Stuart Weitzman steps down as creative director of his eponymous label

Giovanni Morelli has been named his successor

Stuart Weitzman is stepping down from his role of creative director at his own label, over 25 years after establishing the brand, now famous for silhouettes like the celebrity-favourite Nudist heels. Weitzman will be replaced by Giovanni Morelli who is to begin his tenure on 5 May 2017. Once that happens, the shoe designer himself will stay on as chairman of the company.

"In Giovanni, we have a found a creative director who will ensure that the unique DNA of the brand will be preserved while infusing his creative vision for a modern age," Weitzman said in a statement. "Giovanni is respected for his attention to detail, respect of quality and craftsmanship and for his modern sensibility that is always pushing new design boundaries."

Morelli previously worked for Loewe where he served as its leather goods design director since March 2015. He has also designed accessories for Prada, Burberry, Marc Jacobs and Chloé.
