Simone Rocha makes jeans for J Brand

Despite not wearing jeans herself, the designer has created a denim collection that stays true to her aesthetic

Simone Rocha didn't own a single pair of jeans when she started her collaboration with denim label, J Brand. But that wasn't a problem because, as it turns out, she ended up turning the nature of the cotton twill fabric to her favour.

After ten months of work, the designer has delivered Simone Rocha x J Brand, a 20-piece collection that includes bomber jackets, tops, skirts, shorts and trousers with ruffled trimmings. And this being Simone, the palette has petal pink, black and a red that's "not too blue, not too orange."

The Irish designer admitted that stepping away from her soft and light fabrics to work with denim was challenging.

Speaking to the Telegraph, she said, "I loved the idea of working with such an honest, authentic fabric." As we noted before, the pieces aren't the typical blue denim we'd normally see get worn in or torn up after years of use. Simone's denim, selected from J Brand's many different fabric types, still boasts her feminine touch and without closer inspection could fool you into thinking it's not denim at all. If you don't wear denim, this collection may really be up your tree.

Simone's collection for J Brand will first be sold exclusively at New York's Dover Street Market from 14 November, before becoming available at Net-a-Porter at the end of November. From 1 December the collection will also be available at Selfridges and other retailers.
