The CFDA will be honouring Rihanna with the Fashion Icon Award at this year’s ceremony – about time too, especially after the looks she pulled at Paris Fashion Week.

“We are proud to present Rihanna with the CFDA Fashion Icon Award for her impact on the industry as fashion’s most exciting ambassador in recent memory,” said CFDA CEO Steven Kolb. "The record-breaking recording artist, actress, and fashion designer will be recognised for her contributions to the fashion industry as well as her philanthropic partnership with the M·A·C AIDS Fund’s Viva Glam campaign."

Past winners of the award include Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, Iman and Nicole Kidman.

Rihanna’s been on a fashion tear recently, and is known for her bold, statement-making style and chameleon-like hair. It wasn’t too long ago that the singer announced her intention of starting her own fashion label soon; this award should prove the perfect catalyst.
