We trust the image is still fresh in your minds and will be for a very long time – who can forget something like that? – but nothing is better than knowing exactly why Rick Owens sent headline-making, game-changing human backpacks down the runway for his Spring Summer 2016 show.

"There was an Annie Leibovitz image of Leigh Bowery carrying his wife Nicola in a harness they would use for a birthing performance that I always loved," Rick said in a Q&A on Dazed Digital's Tumblr last week. "It was transgressive and sweet at the same time. I thought doing it with women would be a nice interpretation and developed other poses from there."

He also posted a more elaborate explanation of his model-on-model performance and his collection, which he named Cyclops.

Rick already had us impressed by the daring stunt itself, to be honest. Good luck to anyone trying to top that.
