Phoebe Philo is not leaving CÚline after all
CÚline has squashed rumours about its creative director leaving the brand
[Updated 11 February 2016] It looks like rumours were just rumours, as Céline squashed talk that creative director Phoebe Philo was planning to leave the brand.
An internal memo, as reported by WWD, announced that Phoebe and Céline "are more motivated and committed than ever to their partnership and will continue to create beautiful products", striking down "poor journalism" and "dubious sources" that sparked speculation in the first place.
Fans of Phoebe's brilliant work can breathe a sigh of relief; she has plenty more in store for the fashion house.
Rumour has it that the coming AW16 runway show at Paris Fashion Week will be Phoebe Philo's last collection for Céline.
According to sources for The Fashion Law, Phoebe will end her successful 8-year stint as creative director of the French fashion house, but will not join the designer musical chairs that involve the empty top design spots at Dior or Lanvin. Instead, Phoebe may be bringing her expertise to Richemont brand Azzedine Alaïa.
It was first speculated in August last year that Phoebe was looking to move out of Céline, which is owned by LVMH. Page Six reported that she wanted to have more time with her family, who is based in the UK, rather than having to travel to Paris to work so often. Considering Azzedine Alaïa is based in Paris, this may not be the case anymore – all this provided if it's even true that she's moving to Alaïa. We'll just have to wait and see.
One thing's for certain: Céline will not be the same without Phoebe.
