The famous shoes are only available via auction in spring 2016

To celebrate Back to the Future Day (21 October 2015), Nike produced the Nike Mag sneakers first worn by Michael J. Fox's character Marty McFly in the 1989 sci-fi film Back to the Future Part II.

Although the sportswear brand did release the Nike Mag back in 2011, that version did not feature the same self-lacing technology seen in in the film. Good news: the new remake does.

"We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes," said Nike CEO Mark Parker. "By imagining the future, we create it. Product that comes alive, with on-demand comfort and support when you need, product that senses you and adapts to you is right around the corner."

The first pair of the 2015 Nike Mag was gifted to Michael (of course) and the rest of us will just have to outbid each other for the shoes at an upcoming auction. Nike will announce more details about the limited edition release in spring 2016. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Michael's foundation for Parkinsons' research.

Brace yourselves, the future is here.
