Nicole Farhi to showcase busts instead of ready-to-wear collection
The French fashion-designer-turned-sculptor will stage a sculpture collection during London Fashion Week
Nicole Farhi made her swan song in the fashion world two years ago, and now, she is ready to debut a collection of sculptures modelled after famous individuals starting 16 September. Her showcase is a timely one, what with London Fashion Week's closing on the same day, and her having once had her focus on that industry.
Busts were sculpted to portray the likes of actresses Judi Dench and Helena Bonham-Carter, playwright Tom Stoppard, as well as artists Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon.
"I obviously have a strong sense of the line and form of the human body. I have been designing fashion all my life, surrounded by a wonderful, loyal team whom I am still in contact with, but now I spend most of my days alone in my studio," she said of her transition from fashion to sculpture-making.
Nicole's showcase will run from 16 September through 3 October at Bowman Sculpture in London.
