Net-a-Porter to launch The Net Set

The online luxury fashion retailer is reaching into the mobile shopping experience by way of social media

Net-a-Porter is mobilising a secret weapon to enhance its e-commerce value. Enter The Net Set, a new app that essentially takes your regular online shopping experience and injects it with everything you love about social networking.

Post your favourite designer pieces from Net-a-Porter, like and comment on posts by other users, see what's trending, follow friends (or as The Net Set calls them, admirers) and join user-curated clubs according to your style preferences. And of course, you can also shop images you see on your feed, thanks to visual recognition technology that identifies similar items for you to shop.

"The rise of social media and style blogs has shown that women around the world are inspired by each other's style and their closets," founder Natalie Massenet said in the press release. "The Net Set is to mobile in 2015 what Net-a-Porter.com was to desktop in 2000."

The Net Set will be available on the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch for free in the iTunes App Store. A 13 May launch will grant users with an invite code early access to the app. Its global launch will follow after. Android users need not sulk – The Net Set for Android is also in the works.
