Mary Katrantzou wins the BFC Fashion Fund
The British designer wins £200,000 grant to expand her label
Mary Katrantzou has been awarded the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund for 2015, claiming a £200,000 prize that six other British-based labels – Holly Fulton, Sophia Webster, Emilia Wickstead, Osman Yousefzada, Mother of Pearl and Michael van der Ham – were also vying for. Mary will also receive 12 months of mentoring and support to further her business in the industry.
"You know, I've applied before, but this time really is the most important year for us," Mary said after the announcement. "You go through different stages of growth in your business and this past year specifically has been huge for us so it's incredible to win now."
When interviewed by The Telegraph prior to her win she revealed that she already had plans for the money, leading to one goal: to take Mary Katrantzou from "a young London-based label to a global brand."
"We need support financially to open our first shop in London, to tighten up our operations in terms of how we develop and build a product, and to hire more people," she added.
Anything that results in bringing more Mary Katrantzou pieces into the world is a good thing in our book.
