Dior's feminist T-shirt is doing more than just promoting feminism
It's also raising funds for Rihanna's The Clara Lionel Foundation
Maria Grazia Chiuri's 'We Should All Be Feminists' Dior statement tee is doing more than just promoting feminism around the world. The maison has announced that with every T-shirt sold, a percentage of sales proceeds will benefit Rihanna's non-profit organisation, The Clara Lionel Foundation, which supports global education, health and emergency response programmes.
The T-shirt was inspired by Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's essay and TEDx talk of the same name. Ever since it made its runway debut last season, the shirt has already been sported by many famous faces (besides Riri) like Natalie Portman, Chiara Ferragni, and Aimee Song.
"Seeing artists such as Rihanna wearing the We Should All Be Feminists T-shirt showed me how important it is for women to advance their fight," Chiuri said in a statement. "My position in a house as influential as Dior, but also my role as a mother, reminds me every day of my responsibilities and the importance of my actions."
The shirt will be available in all Dior boutiques worldwide and online until 15 May 2017. There will also be a limited-edition black version of the T-shirt that will be available for shipping to Malaysia on Saks.com from 14 March to 28 March 2017.
On another note, Riri was also honoured with Harvard's Humanitarian of the Year award yesterday for the many charities that she has contributed to over the years. The singer attended the ceremony in Cambridge and gave an inspiring, heart-warming speech.
"As I stare out into this beautiful room, I see optimism, I see hope, I see the future," she said. "I know that each and every one of you has the opportunity to help someone else. All you need to do is help one person, expecting nothing in return. To me, that is a humanitarian."
