It has only been a few days since reports surfaced on J Crew's falling sales, but now the American retailer is back in the headlines, this time for appointing Madewell's Somsack Sikhounmuong as head of women's design. Somsack is replacing previous J Crew head Tom Mora.

Somsack has been with J Crew-owned brand Madewell for 14 years and has been credited for the brand's recent rise in sales. But even after his departure, Madewell remains in good hands as its design director Joyce Lee (who has worked under Somsack) is set to take over.

Aside from J Crew's sales slump, the company has also eliminated 175 jobs, mostly from its New York headquarters. Let's just hope Somsack will be able to turn things around for the label.
