Italian intimates brand La Perla took a skinny mannequin off display in one of its stores following a complaint on Twitter from a concerned passerby, Michael Rudoy.

"How does #LaPerla think ribs on a mannequin in ok?!" he tweeted on Sunday, 11 May. The photo of the lingerie-wearing dummy reached the attention of other Twitter users, including Seth Matlins, co-founder of Feel More Better, an organisation that fights 'whatever hates on girls' happiness'.

To match its protruding ribs, the mannequin had matchstick legs and arms, ticking more than enough boxes for advocates against portrayals of an unrealistically skinny body image in fashion.

La Perla quickly responded by first removing the mannequin from its stores. "We are in the process of redesigning all La Perla stores with a new concept image and the mannequins that are currently displayed in our US stores will no longer be used," a spokesperson said.
