Kate Bosworth's new style-stealing app

The actress' latest project is fashion app Style Thief

It's a tale as old as time. Girl meets girl. Second girl is wearing something stylish that first girl would like to get her hands on. First girl invents an app for that very purpose. In this particular scenario, Kate Bosworth is the first girl and by her own admission, the second girl is anyone from Cate Blanchett to Alexa Chung.

Kate recently unveiled her latest venture: Style Thief. It's an app that allows you to take a picture of an item you covet – on a fashion spread, on a friend, or on a stranger – and the image recognition technology will find similar (or the same) products available via e-commerce. It may sound familiar, but Kate's celebrity could be enough to push the app into the upper echelons of Instagram and Shazam.

“Everyone has fashion envy,” Kate said to WWD. “Everyone can relate to that feeling of looking at an editorial, for example – or a friend, or the runway, for that matter – wanting to steal something exactly as you’re seeing it, or something similar.” The app is available now in iTunes for free.
