Karl Lagerfeld will be celebrated at this year's British Fashion Awards, winning the Outstanding Achievement Award for his unrivalled contribution to the fashion industry. A formidable force in fashion, the designer, photographer and art director has spent almost half a century at the helm of iconic fashion houses Chanel, Fendi and Chloé.

"Karl Lagerfeld defines outstanding. He is the champion of excellence, the master of the exceptional and one of the most iconic figures globally from our industry," said Natalie Massenet, chair of the British Fashion Council. "His life's work for his own and so many extraordinary brands has written the language of fashion. He is the ultimate visionary and we celebrate not only the decades already passed but those yet to happen. In Karl's hands the future of fashion will be an exceptional one."

This is eminent in his work at Chanel, where his 30 year tenure and unexcelled vision has exploded the French atelier into a global superbrand that still continues to revolutionise the industry. Karl joins the ranks of previous winners Anna Wintour and Manolo Blahnik, at the awards that will take place on 23 November.
