Is Alexander Wang leaving Balenciaga?
The designer has been with the European fashion house since December 2012
[Updated 8 July 2015] A spokesman from Kering has gone as far as to confirm that Alexander Wang's future at Balenciaga is being discussed, but did not elaborate further.
Alexander Wang will be showing his Spring 2016 collection for Balenciaga at Paris Fashion Week in September, but his future at the fashion house beyond that time is still uncertain. WWD reports that both parties are still discussing the renewal of the American designer's contract.
Alexander, who is one of Forbes's 100 Most Influential People of 2015, was appointed creative director of Balenciaga at the end of 2012 after Nicolas Ghesquière's held the post for 15 years. The brand saw a significant growth, even with Alexander working on his own eponymous label.
"I feel we're already a globally recognised house, and a top luxury leader. We're well on our way," he told WWD before his Autumn/Winter 2015 show in March.
If the 31-year-old indeed ends his contract with Balenciaga, the Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2016 collection may be his swan song.
