H&M has been honoured as one of the World's Most Ethical Company in 2014 alongside Gap and Levi Strauss & Co by Ethisphere Institute. The award, according to H&M, recognises companies that "understand the correlation between ethics, reputation, and daily interactions with their brand."

Ethisphere, an independent research group, defined their Ethics Quotient (EQ) with five key categories: ethics and compliance programme; reputation, leadership, and innovation; governance; corporate citizenship and responsibility; culture of ethics.

While labour practices isn't in the EQ framework, H&M has certainly scored big environmental and philantrophy points, most notably through the H&M Conscious Collections, Conscious Foundation, and Garment Clothing Initiative.
