Gucci confirms it will show Cruise 2017 at Westminster Abbey
It's the first time that a runway show will take place in the historic location
Gucci first announced in November last year that it will show its Cruise 2017 collection in London, and now, the fashion house has revealed that Westminster Abbey will serve as its runway location on 2 June 2016.
Westminster Abbey has long been a traditional location for British royal weddings, the most recent of which was Prince William and Catherine Middleton's in 2011. The Gucci runway will not use the actual church, but will take place in the Cloisters, the corridors that run in the compound of the Abbey. Gucci will be the first fashion house to hold a runway show there.
Creative director Alessandro Michele explained the significance of London to The Telegraph last November.
"London's where my career at Gucci began," he said. "My first office was in [Tom Ford's] studio. I'm obsessed with British culture, past and present. I am deeply in love with this country and its gorgeous history."
