First in line at Balmain x H&M
We spoke to a 19-year-old who has been queuing up two days before the launch of the much-anticipated collection
We're only one sleep away from the launch of Balmain x H&M on Thursday morning, but a few eager shoppers have already started queueing outside the Avenue K and Lot 10 stores. The first in line at Avenue K is Jarron Thong, 19, from Kelantan.
When we spoke this morning the Tunku Abdul Rahman University College mass communication student said he was already very tired, having sat outside the store since Tuesday evening – yes, that's a two-night sleepover. However, his excitement wasn't dampened at all. Jarron is using his savings to shop the collection, having done some part-time work as a retail promoter.
And what's he buying? "My first choices are the jumpsuit, the hoodie and the plain tee. I hope I can get the beanie too, if they have that."
This isn't the first time Jarron has queued for an H&M collab: he camped out for one night for last year's Alexander Wang x H&M collection, which got him into the second batch of shoppers, but didn't manage to nab anything on his wishlist.
"It's quite crazy, I think," he mused. "Each batch has 10 minutes to shop tomorrow. I'll have to be really fast."
Queuing closely behind Jarron and his friends are three male foreigners, who said they were paid by other people to queue and will presumably be replaced by the actual shoppers by tomorrow morning before doors open.
"To be honest, I feel quite sad for them," said Jarron. "They have no idea what they're queuing for. Of course it will be more special when you experience queuing yourself. It's only once a year, I can't find any reason to skip such a great event."
Being first in line is reason enough to be excited. Stay tuned to @ellemalaysia on Twitter for live updates of how Jarron's faring in the countdown to launch, and check back tomorrow morning to see what he bought.
