Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim return to Oscar de la Renta
Two designers have been named co-creative directors of the fashion house
Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia have been appointed as Oscar de la Renta's new co-creative directors. However, the two are no strangers to the brand, previously helmed by Peter Copping who replaced the late de la Renta in 2014, as both started their careers there.
Kim and Garcia used to work under Oscar de la Renta himself – Kim was there for 12 years, while Garcia was there for six – before they left to launch their own line, Monse, in 2015.
"We are beyond thrilled to go back to the fashion house where we learned the fundamentals of fashion from Oscar and the business of fashion from Alex [Bolen]," said Kim and Garcia in a joint statement. "Having further learned so much this past year with Monse, we will apply all of those lessons to expand the vision that this amazing house has already established."
"We are, all of us, a family," said CEO Alex Bolen. "That sort of culture doesn't work for everybody. Fernando and Laura thrived in that culture and are very much a part of our family and we're so glad that they're back."
While continuing their work at Monse, the duo will oversee all ready-to-wear, accessories, bridal and children's collections at Oscar de la Renta. They will debut their first collection under the AW17 season at New York Fashion Week next February.
