Kanye West didn't wait for Kylie Jenner to start his Yeezy Season 5 show
Kim Kardashian's exit was the awkward end-of-show signal
Kanye West is known for making waves with whatever he does. After a close shave with the CFDA for clashing with Marchesa's NYFW slot, we were properly geared up for another episode of Kanye loves Kanye (if you remember, last year's Season 4 show set the bar pretty high for fashion week drama). Perhaps Kanye's learned his lesson because Yeezy Season 5 was, surprisingly, a rather tame affair.
Kim Kardashian sat front row, of course. Also spotted: Hailey Baldwin, Lala Anthony and Carine Roitfeld. Redeeming himself from last year's 3-hour delay, Kanye started his show relatively on time, even though Kylie Jenner and her boyfriend Tyga were about five minutes late. How konsiderate (of everyone else), Kanye.
Oversized sweaters, camo parkas, denim and Adidas athletic wear were staples in the collection with many pieces etched with 'Calabasas' (the California neighborhood where Kanye and the Kardashians live). He also did something a little different: each look was projected on large floor-to-ceiling screens, before models walked the runway.
Another noteworthy moment: Halima Aden, who also made headlines for being IMG's first hijabi model, walked in the finale.
After the final walk, guests waited for Kanye to come out and take a bow... but it never happened. A while later, Kim's own exit signalled the end of the show.
The Yeezy season 5 show was definitely a step away from the always rude Kanye, spaz in the news Kanye. Maybe he's turning over a new leaf, but we miss the old Kanye (guilty as charged).
