Besides making some ill-considered remarks about how gay men should dress, Giorgio Armani also angered Donatella Versace when he revealed to The Sunday Times that the late Gianni Versace once told him "I dress sluts. You dress church ladies." And she has made sure he knows it.

"I find it extremely rude and tasteless that Mr Armani has once again put words in to my brother's mouth, especially because he is sadly no longer with us to reply. This is the second time that he claims this was said, the first time was immediately after his {Gianni's] death and he apologised to me," Donatella said.

"When my brother spoke about fashion the only word that ever came from his mouth was glamour. What should be said about my brother is: may Gianni Versace rest in peace," she added.

This wasn't Giorgio's only unpleasant remark of the week. In the same interview he condemned the way some gay men dress, saying, "A homosexual man is a man 100 per cent. He does not need to dress homosexual."

Even muscular figures were under fire from the Italian designer. "I don't like the muscle boy," he said. "Not too much gym! I like somebody healthy, somebody solid, who looks after his body but doesn't use his muscles too much."
