Dolce & Gabbana sentenced to jail time over tax evasion
Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana and their accountant have been found guilty, again, of tax evasion
The latest development in Dolce & Gabbana’s tax evasion case has the two designers and their accountant, Luciano Patelli, sentenced to 18 months’ jail. Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana and Luciano Patelli were initially found guilty of tax evasion and sentenced to 20 months in prison last June. They were charged with using Luxembourg holding company Gado to evade taxes on royalties of approximately €1 billion.
The Italian appeals court yesterday upheld the verdict, only reducing the sentence by two months. The designers have always denied any wrongdoing, and their lawyer Massimo Dinoia said, "I am speechless. We are all shocked. The judgment is inexplicable and we will appeal."
However, according to Italian law, the three defendants will not actually have to serve jail time as their 18-month sentence does not meet the two-year minimum in Italy.
