Cara Delevingne and Pharrell star in new Chanel video
Be swept away by Karl Lagerfeld's teaser for the label's métiers d'art collection
[Updated 2 December 2014] Reincarnation has been released and it's just as dreamy as we expected. Watch the film above.
Titled Reincarnation, the video is romantic, grand and everything a Chanel métiers d'art collection film should be. It also features the song CC the World, which was written by Pharrell and performed by both the stars. It seems that with acting and modelling tucked well under her belt, Cara can now add singing to her list of accomplishments.
The video retells the true story of Coco Chanel sptting a jacket worn on an elevator operator while on holiday in Austria, which then inspired her to create the iconic cardigan jacket.
Geraldine Chaplin plays Coco, but it's really Cara and Pharrell who steal the show in a dream sequence that transforms Pharrell from a bellboy into Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria, with the model as his wife, Empress Elisabeth, more commonly known as Sisi (also, a clever play on the two interlocking C's of the logo and the title of the video's soundtrack).
"It was time to show the origins of the Chanel jacket, inspired by the one worn by the lift attendant in a hotel near Salzburg in the 1950s," explains Lagerfeld. "Reincarnation is the story of a lift attendant's jacket being reincarnated as a timeless piece of women's wear."
The full film is set to premiere on the Chanel website on December 1, and will be shown the next day at Chanel's Métiers d'art 2014/15 show in Salzburg, Austria. Cara and Pharrell will also appear in the campaign for the collection.
