Anya Hindmarch expands to menswear
Look out, man bags. Space Invaders and Pacman are coming
Anya Hindmarch noticed that men were also shopping for her designed-for-women bags, decorated with statement pop culture references and recognisable from miles away, so she decided that she "might as well do it in a more organised way." In comes Hindmarch's first ever menswear line.
The New York Times reports that the line will start with a capsule collection, out next month, which will include three designs: backpack, tote and quasi-briefcase. Small leather goods and shoes are also expected.
"We didn't need masses of differentiation," Hindmarch said. "Men's hands are bigger, so we had to change the size of some handles and proportions, and women tend to wear more cross-body bags, but that's about it."
Fellow British designer Stella McCartney announced earlier this month that she is delving into menswear too, with the first collection presented alongside her Cruise 2017 women's collection in November shortly before it goes on sale. Hindmarch's plan is different: her first designs for men will be shown at her regular women's London Fashion Week runway slot in September.
