Anthony Vaccarello has been appointed as creative director of Saint Laurent. The announcement comes just days after Hedi Slimane's exit.

"I am extremely happy to have Anthony Vaccarello take the creative helm of Yves Saint Laurent," said Francesca Bellettini, chief executive officer of YSL. "His modern, pure aesthetic is the perfect fit for the maison. Anthony Vaccarello impeccably balances elements of provocative femininity and sharp masculinity in his silhouettes. He is the natural choice to express the essence of Yves Saint Laurent. I am enthusiastic about embarking on a new era with Anthony Vaccarello, and together bringing the maison further success."

Vaccarello remains the creative director of his eponymous label, but has left Versus Versace, where he was creative director for just a little over a year. No successor has been named yet.

"While I'm sad to see him leave the Versace family, I wish Anthony Vaccarello tremendous success with his next chapter," Donatella Versace told The New York Times.

Vaccarello's debut collection for Saint Laurent will be for the Spring Summer 2017 season that will show at Paris Fashion Week this coming October.
