Is Alber Elbaz joining Uniqlo?
The designer is reportedly in talks to collaborate with the Japanese label
Rumour has it that former Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz is joining forces with fashion retailer Uniqlo. According to WWD, sources say that Elbaz's negotiations with the brand's parent company, Fast Retailing Ltd, "have centered on some form of collaboration." Details remain scarce and both sides have declined to comment.
Does this mean that Elbaz is finally ready to rejoin the fashion industry after his abrupt exit from Lanvin? We hope so. Imagining him inject his passion for designing clothes that make women beautiful into Uniqlo's Japanese spirit of comfort and simplicity seems to be a no-brainer as far as potential collaborations go.
"Since I left Lanvin I have a huge scar. For the first couple of months, I walked around Paris and it was raining. I never knew if it was the rain or my tears," Elbaz said earlier this year. "If I ever find an interesting job that will make me want to wake up again, I'll teach every Friday and work one day in a hospital. There's no formula. But I don't want to think about Lanvin."
Uniqlo is known for collaborating with different designers; the brand has worked with Christophe Lemaire (who is also now artistic director), Hana Tajima, Inès de la Fressange and also Carine Roitfeld.
Fingers crossed that we'll soon be able to shop Elbaz's work at Uniqlo.
