ASAP54 is Fashion's Coolest New App
New app ASAP54 combines Shazam and Instagram to become a shopaholic's dream
Welcome to ASAP54, the newest fashion app on the market that combines two of fashion people’s great loves: stalking other people’s style, and shopping. It’s being dubbed ‘the Shazam of fashion’ and this is why: If you see something you like – whether in a magazine, on the person next to you or in the strangely mesmerising pattern on the escalator steps – you can take a picture of it, and visual recognition technology will pick up similar items for you to shop all over the internet.
The app was started by Daniela Cecilio, formerly of Farfetch, who was having trouble articulating her fashion searches in words on Google. “I was looking for a simple way to be connected to what my friends and muses were coveting,” Daniela said. “I loved the idea of a sneaky peak into other people's fashion searches that I can turn to for inspiration.”
You can get very, very specific. Snap a photo of a houndstooth design on your colleague’s dress, and choose whether you’d like ASAP54 to find it on shoppable shirts, skirts (mini, midi or maxi), or flat boots. Take a shot of the night sky on your beach holiday, and use it to find tropical print separates. The app will throw up results as accurate as it can find from its inhouse database of over 150 fashion retailers, including Topshop, J Crew and Net-a-Porter. If you’re not happy with those, send your request into ASAP54’s team of real-life stylists who will match it up with five more suggestions in 24 hours.
And it’s not just about see it, shop it. You can follow other people whose style you admire, keeping up with what they ‘ASAP’ (and liking them, of course). It’s like Instagram, plus shopping, minus the hashtags. #SoFetch
