5 things we love about Uniqlo and Lemaire

It was difficult to pick just five reasons we're head over heels about this collection

We've had the biggest designer collaboration crush on this collection ever since news broke about the dream team-up seven months ago in March. Today, we got the chance to preview the Uniqlo and Lemaire collection ahead of this Friday's launch at the Fahrenheit 88 Uniqlo store and found so many things that we loved about this effortless 55-piece collection. Here are five of those things:

1. Flattering price points
It is, after all, French luxury brand Lemaire that we're talking about here. Safe to say, we're enticed by the fact that we can get our hands on a designer piece without breaking the bank. Prices for this collection start from as low as RM79.90 for a women's lambswool sleeveless sweater and cap off at an affordable RM699.90 for a gorgeous wool cashmere coat. Don't forget that we're paying for fine-spun, luxe materials like merino wool, cashmere, water-repellent cotton and lambswool knit that will definitely weather through the years. A worthy investment, we say.

2. Building blocks for your wardrobe
We'll be honest: none of the pieces in this collection will necessarily turn heads, but that's precisely why we love them. The collection is made up of well-tailored basics in timeless, uncomplicated silhouettes and a neutral colour palette – aesthetics that remain close to Lemaire's familiar, Parisian elegance. This means that each piece will probably fit in with everything else that we currently own and will provide a great foundation for closets that are currently lacking. Versatile and easy to mix-and-match? We're sold.

3. Chic, cosy knits that you'll want to melt into
Everything about this collection gives us warm, snugly feels; it revolves around chunky, cosy knits that you'll want to put on and never take off. While they may not be the most practical for our country's climate, you'll be thanking yourself for the foresight when you're kept toasty and looking on point draped in comfy cashmere while the rest of your colleagues get too cold to function in your sub-zero office temperatures (we all know how annoying that is).

4. Gender-neutral pieces
Sure, the collection may be separated into men's and women's, but really, the entire collection was made for all – men and women alike. At the preview, we noticed, and were especially delighted to find that many women coveted after the men's pieces instead. Similarly, there were also men who loved the women's options – especially a certain robed long cardigan. Us? We have the men's trench coat in black and the shawl collar sweater on our list. And as a bonus, you couples get to double your wardrobe with this gender-neutral collection. Win-win!

5. A minimalist's dream
Try as you may to deny it (is anyone even?),  the minimalist movement is going and growing ever strong. Minimalist devotees (guilty!) must've have been good because they've hit the jackpot with this collection. Great fabrics, immaculate tailoring, muted palette and interesting proportions – less is more so what more can you ask for? Lay the groundwork for your pared-down, aspirational look this Friday. We'll race you to the till!

Uniqlo and Lemaire launches on October 2, 2015 and will be available at the Fahrenheit 88 Uniqlo store.
