Belmond to launch first luxury sleeper train in South America
The Belmond Andean Explorer takes you through the Peruvian Andes in style
From May 2017 onwards, traversing through Peru and conquering its UNESCO World Heritage Sites (including Machu Picchu in Cusco and Arequipa) will be taken up a notch thanks to the Belmond Andean Explorer. The luxury train aims to bring travellers for a journey through "some of the most breathtaking sceneries in the world."
Belmond also operates luxury trains in Europe and Southeast Asia (that's the Eastern & Oriental Express), as well as another day train in Peru, the Belmond Hiram Bingham.
The Andean Explorer sleeper train will be the first of its kind in South America when it starts services next year. Itineraries starting or ending at Cusco, Arequipa and Puno with stops at Lake Titicaca in between ensure that everybody gets to see every bit of beauty Peru has to offer. Each itinerary runs for either one or two nights and starts at $462 (approx. RM1,905) per person for a night on the train.
Cabins on the train come in double, twin and bunk bed options with their own en-suites and showers, while the food served on board will be made using locally sourced ingredients from the Peruvian Andes.
Perhaps the best part of the sleeper train, though not pictured here, is its Observation Car. On it, one will get to enjoy the Andean air in the open with the clearest views as the train travels through the scenic meadows and highlands of Peru.
Not that the Belmond Andean Explorer's stunning interior isn't already enough to have you signing up the first chance you get, but come on, the scenery alone would have you sold.
