NBC is planning to take us back to the rock and roll era with a television series about The Beatles – you know, only the greatest band of all time. Michael Hirst, screenwriter and creator of Emmy Award-winning series The Tudors will write and co-executive produce the eight-episode series with other The Tudors production alumni.

Although the production is still in its early stages and who they're going to cast as John, Paul, George, and Ringo is left to all but our imagination, we're already quite excited about how the band will be chronicled on the small screen.

In case you didn't know, there used to be an American animated series about the quartet that ran for a few years back in the late 1960s. We also think it only appropriate that someone who is used to writing for series about royalty – Michael is also known for his work on Cate Blanchett-starring Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age – should write about rock and roll royalty.
