The Annie Trailer Is Here

Orphan's hard knock life gets a modern remake

By Andrea Tim | Published: 7 Mar 2014

Video: Annie

Oscar-nominated Quvenzhané Wallis stars as the young, free-spirited orphan Annie, with Cameron Diaz filling some really big shoes as the cruel orphanage manager, Miss Hannigan, who was played by Carol Burnett in the 1982 film.

Will Smith and Jay-Z are producers, Emma Thompson is co-screenwriter, and Rose Byrne is Grace Farrell; the only catch in the 2014 remake of Annie is that we won't be hearing anything about Daddy Warbucks, because Jamie Foxx's character, while based on businessman Oliver Warbucks, is named Will Stacks. He's still rich, though.

Other than that, it looks like the story sticks to the original orphan gets adopted by an (initially) arrogant wealthy man plot. And yes, Sandy the lovable stray dog is in this adaptation, too.

Hang on... Quvenzhané sings! The 10-year-old already has a huge personality, is to date the Academy Award's youngest nominee for Best Actress, and she is now Annie. Lucky kid, but well-deserved, we think.

All we know is that Annie will be released December 19 in the US, so maybe time will fly by quickly enough for us to sing along to Tomorrow in Malaysian cinemas.
