Spot Hugh Jackman in the new 'Pan' trailer

The upcoming film, based on J.M. Barrie's beloved classic, explores the origins of the boy who wouldn't grow up

We've so many things to love about Pan. Joe Wright, who helmed Pride & Prejudice, Atonement and Anna Karenina, is directing. Dario Marianelli, who scored all three of those films among many others, wrote the music for the soundtrack. The cast is a charming one, mostly because we were so enamoured by newcomer Levi Miller, who plays the cheeky Peter Pan.

After forgetting for a second that Hugh Jackman plays Captain Blackbeard, we found ourselves wondering who that frightening pirate in the trailer is.

Seriously, where are you, Hugh?

Basically, Peter Pan gets kidnapped by Blackbeard and his cronies while trying to find his mother, who left him at an orphanage as a baby. On the way, he meets all kinds of things that would make an adventure an adventure, including fairies, tribesmen, the pointy end of weapons, and mermaids (it's Cara Delevingne!).

A clean-shaven Garrett Hedlund plays a miner named James Hook (yes, that James Hook), Rooney Mara is the lovely princess Tiger Lily, and Amanda Seyfried is Peter's mother.

Pan opens in Malaysian cinemas on 17 July 2015.
