Æon Flux and Resident Evil's Alice are about to get a run for their...um...super-humanness. In what starts off looking like a regular thriller film about a normal girl who gets kidnapped and used as a drug mule, the new Lucy trailer turns the tables on both the villains and the audience.

How so? The girl, Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) gets kicked in the stomach, and a leakage in the bag of drugs sewn inside her causes her brain capacity to go off the charts, that's how. We see ScarJo doing some – we would call it Black-Widowing, but we won't – slick martial arts and fancy firearm moves to get back at her captors.

Lucy also stars Academy Award-winning Morgan Freeman as Professor Norman, an expert on the human brain that Lucy contacts for help.

With telekenesis, heightened intelligence and sensory awareness, as well as mind-control thrown in, Lucy isn't a normal find-the-drug-kingpin jig. Luc Besson has plenty of experience with superwoman leads, having directed and written for action films Leon: The Professional, The Fifth Element, Columbiana, and Nikita, so this ought to be good.

We’ll see what the French filmmaker has planned for Lucy once she hits Malaysian cinemas this 21 August.
