Ryan Gosling freaked us all out when he announced that he was going to quit acting, but shortly after, he explained it was so that he could focus on directing. This teaser for his first film as director, Lost River, is proof that he wasn't kidding.

The trailer had our minds twisted, wrung, and mangled in the name of neo-noir, but did nothing to tell us  what Lost River is about. What it is about is Billy (Christina Hendricks), a single mother who gets swept into a dark lifestyle while her son, Bones (Iain De Caestecker) finds a road that leads him to an underwater town.

There's no sign of Christina in the trailer, but we suspect that Doctor Who fans will get a kick out of seeing Matt Smith taunting the boy, flashing his muscles as he does so. Also starring Eva Mendes and Saoirse Ronan, Lost River premiered at the Cannes Film Festival yesterday, 20 May 2014.
