Rihanna is an alien in new 'Sledgehammer' music video

'Star Trek' star Zoe Saldana says Anton Yelchin would be proud

Now we know Rihanna would make a seriously good-looking extraterrestrial being with no eyebrows, thanks to the new Sledgehammer video. In the clip, she sports a rust-coloured toga-like jumpsuit and bizarre markings on her face as she stands alone on a barren planet.

If her look isn't enough to amaze you, keep watching for the part where she encounters a mysterious orb, touches it, and melts into tiny particles that float away into the galaxy, recalling what cosmologist Neil deGrasse Tyson once said: "We are made of star stuff."

The track was written by Riri and Sia; it was first featured in the latest Star Trek Beyond trailer. Some of the cast thanked Rihanna for the song, in light of the recent and tragic death of their co-star Anton Yelchin.

"After such an unimaginably sad week for our star trek family - @badgalriri brings some light into the darkness," Zachary Quinto wrote on Instagram.

"Thank you @badgalriri, for a beautiful song during one of the most difficult times for our Star Trek family," Zoe Saldana said. "We know Anton would be proud."

Star Trek Beyond opens in local cinemas on 21 July 2016.
