Pretty Woman Goes To Broadway
The classic Hollywood rom-com is getting the musical treatment
One of the eighties' most beloved chick-flicks, Pretty Woman, may soon see a new musical incarnation fit for Broadway.
The New York Post reports that Pretty Woman director Garry Marshall is meeting potential lyricists, composers and directors with producer Paula Wagner to transform this hit movie into a musical. The movie’s screenplay writer J.F. Lawton is also said to be writing the script for the musical.
Pretty Woman is often touted as a modern interpretation of the classic rags-to-riches romance My Fair Lady, and since that’s seen huge success as a musical for decades, we’re optimistic that its eighties cousin will make it just as big.
Considering that Pretty Woman has all the right ingredients for a visual, singing, dancing extravaganza – big hair! fashion! romance! – we can only ask why it wasn’t done sooner.
