The John Lewis Christmas ad will cure your bad feels about 2016

Remember, you're Buster the Boxer

We get it – 2016 has been a big bully. But for those of us lucky enough to still walk the Earth, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger et cetera, and our chance at cheering ourselves up has presented itself in the timeliest way possible.

The John Lewis Christmas advert has just been released. The star of the ad is Buster the Boxer, who watches as his dream present gets taken over by other wild animals – the scoundrels! – in his human family's yard. It's not the British department store's intention, of course, but this is how we're looking at it: Buster the Boxer is us (hopefully also eventually feeling the same way as he does in the end) and the group of wild animals is 2016.

John Lewis partnered with The Wildlife Trusts as its charity partner this year. Ten percent of the proceeds from the ad's soft toy animals sales will be donated to The Wildlife Trusts.
