Jake Gyllenhaal continues his streak of single-worded drama/thriller titles.

This time, the Southpaw actor puts on a suit to play Davis in Demolition (like we said, single-word titles). Davis is a successful investment banker who struggles to live normally after losing his wife in a car crash. The whole thing starts off sounding like Southpaw, where he (spoiler alert) loses his wife early on in the film, too.

However, in Demolition, ten minutes after her death, Davis tries to get a snack from a vending machine, only to have it malfunction on him. He starts writing complaint letters to the vending machine company.

The letters are received by a customer service rep called Karen (Naomi Watts) who becomes intrigued by his messages despite them becoming increasingly personal. Although Davis is constantly pressured by his father-in-law (Chris Cooper) to move on, Davis's life continues to deteriorate but is aided into recovery by Karen and her son (Judah Lewis).

Jean-Marc Vallée directed Demolition, which is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 10 September.
