'Game of Thrones' fans watched ice melt for 18 minutes before trailer release
"What do we say to the God of Productivity? Not today"
Game of Thrones knows that its fans are hooked – so hooked, that they'd ardently watch a Facebook live video, which ran for nearly 18 minutes, to witness the reveal of the seventh season's premiere date. It sounds like the standard nail-biting anticipation manoeuvre, except all that happened for those 18 minutes was ice melting.
Yup. The producers must have had a very. Good. Laugh.
One Mike Meeker wrote "What do we say to the God of Productivity? Not today," in the comments, while another fan Ebe Rodriguez Vidal suggested "If there's a next season you guys should have Peter Dinklage chug a jug of wine and have the release date at the bottom of the jug."
In all fairness, HBO did release the first teaser video, which is a recap of some of the most bone-chilling quotes from previous seasons. Still, watching ice melt is going to be one of most memorable TV stunts in history. The fans concede; somewhere, the producers are still laughing.
They could have shot an entire new season of Togetherness on the budget of an ice-melting live stream.— Andrew Jones B.S. (@EthanRunt) March 9, 2017
It's not TV.
if you didn't write "fire" repeatedly on the game of thrones live vid for an hour , what did you do today?— Mara Goodman (@maraTVgurl) March 9, 2017

If I ever have to make a big announcement, I'm doing @GameOfThrones style with a blowtorch and ice sculptures.— Pistöl (@goonersgirl008) March 9, 2017
