What went down at The Emmy Awards 2014
Bryan Cranston and Julia Louis-Dreyfus made out, and 'Breaking Bad' won big
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bryan Cranston made out
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bryan Cranston were paired together to present the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Before announcing the nominees, Julia joked that Bryan looked like a character from Seinfeld whom she’d dated on the series. It was actually Bryan who played that role and though he tried to remind Julia she played it off like she didn’t remember him.
Fast forward to when Julia won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Veep. When Julie was on the way to pick up her award, the Breaking Bad actor went towards her, blocked her path and pulled her in for a full make out session. At which point Julia goes, "oh, he was on Seinfeld." Oh, these two. Why aren't they dating in real life?
Billy Crystal pays tribute to Robin Williams
We were all saddened by Robin Williams' passing a few weeks ago and Robin's real-life close friend, comedian Billy Crystal paid a bittersweet tribute to him.
“He made us laugh, big time. I spent many happy hours with Robin on stage,” Billy said, “He could be funny anywhere. We were such great friends… As genius as he was on stage, he was the greatest friend you could ever imagine – supportive, protective, loving. It’s very hard to talk about him in the past because he was present in all of our lives. For almost 40 years, he was the brightest star in the comedy galaxy.”
Rest in Peace, Robin. You will be missed.
Sofia Vergara was on put on a sexist bit
Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara was on stage to introduce Bruce Rosenblum, the chairman of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. But people took offense when Sofia was literally put on a pedestal that rotated 360 degrees showing off her famous Latina curves while Bruce talked about the state of the television industry. Bruce said, “What truly matters is that we never forget that our success is based on always giving the viewer something compelling to watch.”
We know it's meant to be a joke but we found the gimmick pretty distasteful. Actresses are already hyper sexualised and objectified, and we don't think this stunt did anything to address that.
Breaking Bad wins big
There is no stopping AMC's Breaking Bad. After wrapping up their final season last year, the television series took home most of the night's major trophies on the drama side including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor (Bryan Cranston), Outstanding Supporting Actress (Anna Gunn), Outstanding Supporting Actor (Aaron Paul) and Outstanding Writing.
Modern Family too continued its winning streak with another Outstanding Comedy Series and also, Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory won his third Emmy award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. You go, Sheldon Cooper!
