Disney's 'Aladdin' to get a live action prequel
The studio is becoming a wish-granting factory with all these remakes
The next Disney classic to join the growing list of films that are getting live action versions is the popular tale of Aladdin. But instead of being adapted completely from the original film, the upcoming project will be a prequel, with its story focused on Genie who was voiced by the late Robin Williams.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the film, called Genies, is about the realm of the Genies (what else?) and will reveal how Aladdin's Genie came to be enslaved in the lamp. It is still a work-in-progress with Damian Shannon and Mark Swift penning the script. We wish Robin could reprise his role; he certainly has left behind some big shoes for the next Genie to fill in.
