Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara flirt in 'Carol' teaser

The 1950s couldn't look better on the pair

Has anyone ever been cooler than Cate Blanchett as she sips a martini, smirks and takes on the New York winter like a vision of 1950s splendour in the new trailer for Carol? No. Carol is set in New York, where a married woman (that would be Carol), played by Cate, falls for a younger department store clerk (Rooney Mara). Rooney, who at times reminds us of Audrey Hepburn with her character's micro fringe and doe eyes, tied for the Cannes Film Festival's Best Actress award. Meanwhile, the film itself competed for the Palme d'Or.

We doubt the film will be screened in Malaysian cinemas – because Malaysia – but we have a feeling Carol is going to be a big contender for next year's Academy Awards.
