Björk releases new music video for 'The Gate'
Watch the singer's kaleidoscopic music video, in which she wears a custom design by Gucci's Alessandro Michele
Singer Björk has released the first single off her upcoming album, Utopia, due in November with a music video that will blow your mind. Think Final Fantasy: Spirits Within combined with every animated film about Gaia.
Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele contributed to the sci-fi elements of the video by designing Björk a custom pleated iridescent gown that took approximately 550 hours to make. According to video director Andrew Thomas Huang, the clip is a glimpse into Björk's utopia that picks up from where her previous album Vulnicura left off.
"The doorway lies within the wound from Vulnicura, which now appears transformed into a prismatic portal channelled between the chests of two lovers," Andrew said. "Not lovers in the quotidian romantic sense, but in a broader cosmological way. As a throughway into Björk's new album, The Gate is a declaration of hope sung by a woman refracted and re-formed into a luminous whole."
Björk's work might be too deep for us to comprehend on a Monday evening but at least we can appreciate the trippy Gucci gown.
