There's been much speculation about the new-gen Apple iPhones, and it turns out that the home-buttonless screen is true, except it's not on the iPhone 8. It's on the iPhone X (pronounced as "ten"). There's no nine. Seven ate nine. Sorry, nine.

We highlight the most exciting features on the Apple's new babies.

The sizes
The iPhone 8 screen is 4.7 inches, while the iPhone 8 Plus is 5.5 inches. But the iPhone X is even bigger – at 5.8 inches, it's Apple's biggest smartphone yet. Apple says it has always wanted to make a phone that's "all screen", that lets you completely immerse yourself in what you're watching on your phone.

Face ID
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus still has a home button with Touch ID, but because the iPhone X is "all screen", Apple has introduced its first facial recognition feature, Face ID. Unlock your phone with your face (even in low-light situations) and use it for Apple Pay as well.

The camera
On the iPhone X, the 7MP front and 12MP rear-facing cameras both have Portrait mode (to create that beautiful blurred background effect) and Portrait Lighting (still in Beta) that lets you choose different lighting options, including one that applies natural contours to your face. The same features are also in the iPhone 8 Plus.

With Animoji, a step above facial filters, the iPhone X's TrueDepth camera (the front-facing camera) analyses your facial muscle movements and mirrors your expressions on 12 animated emoji. They include the monkey face and – OMG you're going to have so much fun with this – the poop emoji.

Wireless charging
Apple will introduce the AirPower mat in 2018 for you to wirelessly charge the new iPhones as well as the latest Apple Watch and AirPods.

Lightning connector
Apple kept the water and dust resistant features on its new phones, so unfortunately, there's still no dedicated jack for your EarPods. It will have to share the same Lightning connector system as your charger.

Launch date and prices
There's no date and prices for Malaysia yet – surprise, surprise – but in the US, pre-orders for the iPhone 8 start on 15 September, ahead of the 22 September launch. For the iPhone X, pre-orders begin on 27 October, and launches on 3 November. Prices start at US$699 for the iPhone 8, US$799 for the iPhone 8 Plus and US$999 for the iPhone X. That's at least RM2,940 for the entry level iPhone 8.

Start saving.
