After months of rumours, Warner Bros. has finally confirmed that there will be a Justice League film to follow the upcoming 2016 Man of Steel sequel, tentatively named Batman vs. Superman.

Zack Snyder, who is director of both Henry Cavill-starring Superman films will also direct Justice League, which is rumoured to have a 2018 release date. No news on casting yet, but we suspect Henry Cavill will reprise his role.

Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot star as Batman and Wonder Woman respectively in the Superman sequel, set for 6 May 2016 (the same date as Captain America 3), so we may see them in JLA too. And then there's Green Lantern, who was played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 film; we can only hope that the box-office flop doesn't jinx the League. A recasting of the power ring-bearing Hal Jordan won't hurt either.

It looks like 2016 is going to be one helluva blockbuster-filled year. Now if Marvel can follow up the 2015 The Avengers: Age of Ultron with a third ensemble film in 2018, we may yet face a major inter-universe superhero film battle.
